A trip to Australia that has been in the plans for 4 years, finally happens! Another trip postponed by the pandemic and health issues.
It was by chance, that our 5 days in Sydney were aligned to the 12th annual Vivid Festival in Sydney. We had no idea, until a couple of weeks before we hopped on a 14 hour plane across the Pacific, and landed in Sydney, Australia.
The city of Sydney puts on a magnificent festival for 4 weeks during their winter time, when the sun sets at 5:30 PM and, until 11:30 PM, the skies of Circular Quay are lit with colorful searchlights, buildings coordinate their vibrant colored lights, and the main landmarks (Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbor Bridge), come to life with wonderful projected animations.
It is a super family-friendly event, with food trucks parked behind the Overseas Passenger Terminal. …Australians are so literal with their names! The concert hall (Opera House), the bridge (Harbor Bridge) and the port where cruise ships moor (Overseas Passenger Terminal). I guess “corporate naming rights” is something they keep away from landmarks. As they should!
We did not manage to attend the food and music parts of the event this time. Maybe next time. There were great sold-out concerts at the Opera House. I’ll get to see Alpha Mist live some other time.
The Drone Show
We got to experience the choreography of hundreds of colorful drones animating the skies twice, during the 5 days we were there. I had seen these drone shows on TV, but being there and hearing they buzz, was quite an experience.

More to Come
This is the first of a few posts about our trip to Australia. With a few thousands image to go through, I will have content for these posts for a while.
Amazing photos!
I've been in Sidney many years ago, but without those lights. Beautiful city and nice people. Great photos!
